Pair figure skating and luge sports are the new Olympic medals for the Russian team at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

On February 14, 2 press conferences were held at once following the results of medal competitions - in pair figure skating and luge sports.

At 13-00 in the Media Center, figure skaters, Olympic medalists Tatyana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov, who won the gold medal, Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov, who took silver, as well as coach Nina Moser, spoke to the journalists.

Tatyana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov became two-time Olympic Winter Games champions in Sochi 2014. They announced that they will remain in figure skating for at least 4 more years and are already thinking about preparing for the next Olympic Winter Games, which will be held in Pyeongkhang.

“We are especially happy to return gold in pair skating to our country,” Trankov said. - It is especially pleasant that Oleg Belousov and Lyudmila Protopopova were on the platform of the Iceberg Palace. After our performance, the first Soviet champions of the Olympic Games in history came up and warmly congratulated on the victory. Naturally, we thought about our future before these competitions. And then there was no question of leaving at all: it was decided to wait until the couple grew up, which would cover, as they say, our "rear". And now such a pair, consisting of Ksenia Stolbova and Fyodor Klimov, has appeared. But we thought about it and decided to stay in the big sport. We will skate for another four years. At the very least, we set ourselves the task of being selected for the Olympic team in 2018 to participate in the team tournament. And the age by that time will be quite "katabatic" - I will be 34 years old. And performing in Korea will be a good point to end your career."

The skaters shared their plans for the day - they are going to support Russian athletes who perform in sports such as biathlon and skeleton.

“We will definitely take the gold medals with us so that other guys can touch them for good luck,” said Nina Moser. - We have fulfilled our tasks, now we will “go in for” other sports. I am sure that Russian athletes will definitely pick up the golden wave raised by figure skaters in other arenas."

At 17-00 at the Media Center, a conference was held with the participation of Olympic silver medalists (luge, team relay) Tatyana Ivanova, Albert Demchenko, Alexander Denisiev, Vladislav Antonov, as well as Natalia Garth, President of the Russian Luge Federation.

“I dedicate this medal to all of Russia - to those who supported us, worried, believed and supported in difficult times. We did it together, as a team, and not separately, and this is its special value,”said Albert Demchenko.

For Albert Demchenko, this silver became the second at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi - he became the second in the single sleigh, as well as in the relay in the national team. According to him, the Russian national luge team is not going to stop at this figure.

“The Russian national team has fulfilled its plan for the 2014 Olympic Games, we have worked one hundred percent. In the future, we would like more: both in terms of the number of medals and in terms of quality. We have already begun to discuss further work in order to show the maximum result at the next Games based on what has been done,”Demchenko said.

“I am glad that these difficult days have passed. It was hard to fall asleep from the feeling of euphoria that we did it. We helped the guys, they helped us,”said Alexander Denisiev.

Natalia Garth, President of the Russian Luge Federation, noted the excellent condition of the Olympic track.

“We have built an amazing track, the most modern one. This sport is high-tech, we will strive to compete with the German luge,”she said.
